About

I am an essayist, magazine writer, and occasional editor with a focus on culture, style, and surfing. Currently, I’m working on an essay collection about my many past lives through the lens of surfing. And I’m a staff writer at Image, the style and culture magazine of the LA Times.

I hold an MFA in literature and creative nonfiction writing from the Bennington Writing Seminars and a BA in English literature from Vassar College. My work has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, The Missouri Review, Off Assignment, The Surfer’s Journal, Assay, and other publications, including two print anthologies. I also edited AM SURF – No 1, the first surf publication from Adam Mar. Select essays of mine have been featured in the Off Assignment newsletter, Bright Spots, and Memoir Monday. My writing has been generously supported by the Prospect Street Writers House.

Of course, I have a Substack: Still Stoked. I’m in the process of resurrecting it as conversations with people who surf, so subscribe now to be stoked later.

I volunteer as the Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator for Surfrider Foundation Los Angeles and as a coach with INTRSXTN Surf, a collective of Black women and WOC surfers. I am also on the Advisory Board for Off Assignment, a non-profit literary magazine.

I’m based in Los Angeles, where I was born and raised, but I spent most of my adult life in New York and I feel like this about the whole situation.

I’ll probably ask you to get a Dole Whip with me. My favorite job I’ve ever had was my brief stint as a shepherd in France. And if you’re still curious, here’s a podcast interview.
